BREAKING BOUNDARIES WITH JACK BUDDAH

Gishoronge Mwangi better known as his artistic alias “Jack Buddah” is a 20-year-old artist, who is studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Botswana. Jack is a creative who pretty much creates anything and everything, he describes himself as a photographer, videographer, painter, model, creative designer and an editor. His painting style is a combination of realism and abstract art; his pieces are abstract in the message they convey and their orientation whilst still making some characteristics more realistic. His style is experimental and about breaking boundaries which is seen in the way he combines different colors, textures and editing styles in his pieces.

“I’m just doing me, so my style is just Jack.”

He first developed an interest in art at a very young age, it came easy to him, and it's been something that’s been a part of him ever since. Through art he conveys ideas and images that come to his mind and uses his paintings as a medium of expressing suppressed emotions in a way that isn’t detrimental to those around him.

CULT BY JPG

This series of pictures highlights the versatility of Jack's creativity as he is both the model and editor. The first picture showcases progression with how the image of himself gradually repeats itself whilst varying in poses which creates a lovely feeling of motion, ease and fluidity.

In the first two pictures he shows of his seamless cloning as he is able to place multiple pictures of himself in one image.

The last picture showcases asymmetrical balance as they are different articles used in the design that may seem random to the untrained eye, but they are in fact cohesive. He uses different visual elements on both sides of the design that carry an equal weight and balance each other out. The large cursive text on the right balances out the tiny paragraph on the left. Whilst the black and blue butterfly goes along with the blue text on the right.

JACK & PRADA 3: DISCOVERING BOTSWANA

The photos give off a 90’s chic noir feel which could be attributed to the rustic colors that were used. The articles in the first picture (including the model) vary in shape and placement but having the same color palette throughout in the picture ties everything together.

The shadows in the second picture add depth to the picture and enhances contrast which creates a striking image.

In the last photo the baby blue is used as an accent color to liven up the monochromatic background, which ties everything together. This series of pictures brings us to appreciate the various ways of using color when editing images.
